62Die, each year due to injuries or accidents at work, many hundreds of
people in Portugal. Many thousands lost working time by injury or
disease. For these reasons, the health and safety issues are very
serious in business.
For occupational hygiene means the set
of rules and procedures aimed at protecting the physical and mental
integrity of the employee.
Safety at work is the set of technical measures to prevent accidents.
Different legislation has been keen to establish rules of hygiene and
safety at the workplace in general and specific regulations for certain
types of industries, hospitals and schools. The legislation also
requires the set in each specific context, who is responsible for
enforcing these rules.
It will be steering the company's
disclosure standards of safe working and the training for that. The
inspection of working conditions should be regular and periodic.
But safety in the workplace is not only a matter of direction of the
company. It is for workers to take steps towards their own health and
safety and not to forget the others:
- Subject to the decisions of the company in relation to security procedures at work.
- Indicate the direction of the incident that led company, or may lead to claims.
- Cooperate in the investigation of accidents to prevent their repetition.
